Air Canada strike unlikely as airline, flight attendants reach tentative deal

Less than 12 hours before Air Canada’s 6,800 flight attendants were threatening to strike, they reached a tentative deal.

The details of the agreement won’t be released until after it’s ratified.

None of the airline’s mainline flights were affected. Some Jazz flights that were rescheduled to accommodate the possible strike will be back on regular schedule by Thursday.

The flight attendants were threatening to strike at 9 p.m. Vancouver time Tuesday.

CUPE said 400 people rallied at Vancouver Airport on Tuesday morning to support the workers and similar rallies were held across the country.

Federal Labour Minister Lisa Raitt promised to legislate the flight attendants back to work after talks between the two sides ended without a deal Monday night in Montreal to prevent a further strain on the Canadian economy.
