B.C. government spends nearly $8 million to promote HST before referendum

The B.C. government spent almost $8 million on harmonized sales tax information campaigns, town halls, guides, research and independent advisory work in advance of the referendum, the Victoria Times Colonist reported Thursday.

The figures were included in the final report from the HST Information Office Thursday.

The finance ministry, which promised not to exceed $5 million in its information campaign, spent $4.998 million, the office said, while noting the figures are still preliminary while receipts are counted.
