B.C. Hydro looks to trim hundreds of jobs

B.C. Hydro announced the chopping of 300 jobs this week as part of a three-year plan to cut 700 jobs.

The company announced the downsizing in the wake of a scathing government-ordered review that found B.C. Hydro bloated by up to 1,200 surplus staffers.

In order to slow down Hydro rate increases, the review called for $300 million in savings over three years, including $175 million in staffing costs.

The numbers don’t actually add up to 700 pink slips, however, as the company will look to reduce numbers as people leave the workforce over the three-year trimming.
