Fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision on Highway 43 near Sparwood
Elk Valley RCMP responded to a motor vehicle incident involving two pedestrians and a commercial vehicle on Highway 43 early Monday morning, Oct. 3.
Preliminary investigations have determined that a male and a female standing on the roadway were struck by a southbound commercial vehicle.
The vehicle that struck the subjects was unable to avoid hitting the individuals who were standing on the travel portion of the hwy. The male pedestrian died en route to the hospital and the female pedestrian has been flown to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary and is listed in critical condition.
Elk Valley RCMP and East Kootenay Traffic Services with the assistance of a collision reconstructionist are investigating.
No ages or names are being released at this time. Highway 43 is currently open to traffic.
