Numbers don’t improve on the employment front in Kootenays

The number of people employed in the Kootenay regions dropped by over 400 people in August, compared to one year ago, according to Statistics Canada.

As well, the unemployment rate rose nearly one per cent to 8.6 per cent, but the jobless numbers dropped one point, from 10.5 to 9.5.

According to Statistics Canada, job gains came in the service sector, with some losses in retail wholesale trade.
