RCMP and BC Conservation Officer Services road check snares man with 23 lbs marijuana in vehicle

A 50-year-old Kelowna man was found in possession of 23 pounds of marijuana after being checked by RCMP and BC Conservation Officers at seasonal public safety road check last Sunday.

On Sunday, Nov. 6, South Okanagan Conservation Officers, along with the assistance of local RCMP, conducted a seasonal road checkpoint near Oliver — four hours west of Nelson — to ensure adherence to BC Wildlife Act regulations and Criminal Code firearm safety regulations.

The man’s vehicle was checked during the enforcement and public safety initiative conducted on Hwy 97 north of Oliver near Vaseux Lake.

The BC Conservation Officers and RCMP arrested the 50-year-old Kelowna resident for drug possession related offences following a search of his vehicle which uncovered the packaged marihuana and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man was released from police custody with charges currently pending.
