RCMP Traffic Services continue investigation into OK Falls pedestrian fatal collision

The RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services (S.O.T.S.), continue to investigate last Friday’s fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision on Hwy 97 in Okanagan Falls.

On Friday, Sept. 30, at around 7:15 pm, the Penticton RCMP and S.O.T.S. responded to a report of fatal motor vehicle collision involving a 70-year-old Okanagan Falls woman, who was struck and killed while walking across Hwy 97 in Okanagan Falls near the four way intersection of Hwy 97 and 9th Ave.

The investigative findings indicate that the woman was walking diagonally across 9th Ave near the intersection towards the northwest. The woman was struck by a 1990 Chevrolet Blazer operated by a 60 year old Penticton man who was traveling westbound on Hwy 97. Speed and alcohol consumption on the part of the driver are not suspected.

Investigators are examining the driver’s and pedestrian’s actions along with the lighting and visibility conditions that were present at the time of the incident. Weather conditions were dry with Fall dusk light conditions.

The deceased woman has been identified as Almay Cumberland of Okaganan Falls.
