Selkirk looks to keep Selkirk aviation program viable

Selkirk College is submitting a proposal to Western Economic Diversification for capital renewal funding for equipment at the West Kootenay Regional Airport in Castlegar.

The regional innovation chair, Terri MacDonald, asked the RDCK board for a letter of support for the funding of two simulators, two twin-engine planes and storage/maintenance hangar.

Acquiring the state-of-the-art twin-engine planes would allow the second-year students to remain in Castlegar for the second year of training in the Selkirk aviation program.

The board agreed to write the letter.

It was felt the program’s presence at the airport was a significant factor in maintaining a viable commercial air service to the region.
