On Sunday, May 8, at 4:30 a.m. a Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a break, enter, and theft occurring at the Waneta Mall located in the 8000 block of Hwy 3B in Trail, according to RCMP.

Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said the responding officer located the suspect, a 35-year-old Castlegar man, who had allegedly broken into the mall and stole several small items.

“The suspect attempted to run away from the officer, who followed the man in his marked police vehicle,” Wicentowich said. “The suspect eventually tripped over his own feet and fell down; which promptly resulted in the officer arresting him for Break, Enter, and Theft contrary to Section 348(1) of the Criminal Code.”

The 35-year-old Castlegar man will make his first appearance on June 23, 2022, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.

“We would like to thank Selkirk Security for their assistance in this matter; and the suspect’s floppy feet,” Wicentowich added.
