Gas leak shuts down Highway 3A north of Nelson

UPDATED: Highway 3A was opened to traffic at approximately 1:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Highway 3A north of Nelson near Blaylocks was closed Tuesday afternoon due to a gas leak said a reader of The Nelson Daily.

The leak, happening shortly before the noon hour and located approximately five kilometers north of Nelson, was caused by a contractor working along side of the highway. Emergency crews responded, stopping back traffic until FortisBC could stop the flow of leading gas.

DriveBC said the highway was closed in both directions with no estimated time of opening. There are no detours available to move traffic on this part of Highway 3A.
