Interior Health has identified increased COVID-19 activity throughout the 100 Mile House region and has declared a COVID-19 outbreak due to rapid spread in the community of Canim Lake.

Located approximately 40 km from100 Mile House, Interior Health has identified 32 cases of COVID-19 who reside in the region and are linked to Canim Lake.

Outbreak response activities are being co-ordinated together with Canim Lake First Nation, Interior Health, the First Nations Health Authority, Emergency Management BC, and others. Agencies are working together to bring additional resources to support the community.

Interior Health is overseeing COVID-19 outreach testing, contact tracing, transportation and isolation for affected individuals with support from local community health services.

The Canim Lake First Nation has taken extraordinary efforts to ensure public health and safety and are working collaboratively with neighbouring communities to mitigate the risk factors associated with the rapid transmission of the virus.

We are grateful for the community leadership of the local elected officials and Canim Lake First Nation as we work to support the community together.

Although this outbreak is being declared in Canim Lake, increased COVID-19 activity is being broadly detected throughout the 100 Mile House region.

Everyone is reminded to avoid social gatherings and limit socialization to immediate household bubbles. Please follow public health guidance such as physical distancing, washing your hands regularly, wearing a mask, etc.

This is a good time for businesses and workplaces throughout the region to review their COVID-19 safety plans to protect customers and staff.

Everyone in all communities should remain vigilant in following COVID-19 precautions:

  • Keep to your household bubbles and avoid social gatherings.
  • Stay home when you are sick and get tested if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID‑19.
  • Practise physical distancing and use a mask if you cannot.
  • Wash your hands often.

The best way to protect yourself, your family, your business, and your community is to follow these public health measures. Please remain kind and do not stigmatize or judge others who seek testing, or test positive, for COVID-19.
