Local hospice seeks swimmers

Trying to find ways to have fun while raising funds for hospice support programs is not always an easy task. Our local Hospice Society thinks it has come up with a positive solution with the Swimathon it is holding at the Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Trail, on March 8 from noon to nine. Swimmers and their sponsors are invited to participate in this event, which combines a healthy activity with the opportunity to fund some of the important work undertaken by hospice employees and volunteers.

Hospice Treasurer Barbara Gibson, the main energy behind the swimathon says: “Keeping the books for hospice makes me very aware of the amount of help we need in order to provide the supports we offer to our friends and neighbours who are coming to the end of life. The swimathon is one way to help keep our programs going.”

If you would like to swim for Hospice, sponsor a swimmer or otherwise donate to the cause, please contact the Hospice office at 250-364-6204.  Hospice is a registered charity and tax deductible receipts are issued for donations.  You can find out more online at www.trailhospice.org.

Our Hospice Society provides trained volunteers to provide bedside respite both in a home setting or in a care facility.  A trained professional works with the families and medical personnel to provide symptom management and co-ordinate access to resources for the client and their family.  The Society also provides community awareness events, training for volunteers and medical professionals, grief support programs, palliative equipment loans and a library dealing with issues surrounding a life limiting illness.
