Pedestrian faces minor injuries after being struck by vehicle

A local woman was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries after being struck in an inteersection, according to Trail top cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Sept. 8, at 5:10 p.m. the Trail …RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle incident between a white Hyundai Sante Fe and a 44-year-old female pedestrian crossing Victoria Street near Bay Avenue in Trail,” Wicentowich said. “The 28-year-old male driver of the Sante Fe turned left onto Victoria Street from Bay Avenue and allegedly struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

“Witnesses noted that the Sante Fe was moving very slowly at the time of the incident,” he added. “The pedestrian was taken to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for an assessment of what were believed to be minor injuries.”

He said the driver was issued a $196 fine for allegedly driving without consideration contrary to section 144 (1)(b) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
