Rosslanders ‘Flood’ the podium as locals excel at Whitewater Free Ski Open
The first-ever Whitewater Junior Free Ski Open was held last weekend and showcased some strong Rossland talent. Rosslanders did well over all but of particular note were a brother and sister who took to the podium in their respective categories. Erin Flood came in first in the 8-11 year old girl category while her brother Jacob took Second in the 12-15 year old boy category.
And if that wasn’t enough, Erin and Jacob’s 13 year-old sister Mackenzie just missed the podium with a 4th place finish in her category. Mackenzie recently won the Canadian Open Freeskiing Champs held at Red Mountain two weeks ago. Jacob is in his first year of the Red Mountain Free Ski Academy and is sponsored by Mountain FM and MountainHigh Lighting. Erin and Mackenzie are also sponsored by MountainHigh.
Other young Rosslanders who fared equally well at the event but whose names weren’t Flood include
- Xander Sterpin who took second in the Boys’ 16-18 category, Kelly Humphries who took 5th spot, and Vinznenz Keller who came in 6th
- Sally Steeves, who won the Girls’ 16-18 category
- Arlo Stevens, who took 5th in boys’ 12-15 along with Sean Ennis (19th), Jeff Ashton (24th), and George Hogarth (32nd)
- Jessie Fuller, who came in 2nd in Girls 12-16 while Hannah Sterpin came in 6th
- Simon Hillis, who came in 2nd in the Boys' 8-11, while Logan Merringer came in 5th, Orion Humphries, 6th, and Shaheed Livingstone came in 13th.
Congratulations to all of the competitors. Please see the attached pdf for a complete list of results.
