Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the West Kootenay region Friday morning, saying total amounts of 15 to 25 cm snowfal is expected.

“A Pacific storm will move across the BC interior today. Five to 10 cm of snow fell across the West Kootenay region last night,” the website said. |Heavy snow will continue this morning and then become mixed with rain at the valley bottoms this afternoon. Additional snowfall accumulation of 10 to 15 cm is expected today.”

They also issued a winter storm warning for the BC southern interior, particularly Hwy 3 from the Pualson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

“A Pacific storm will move across the BC interior today. Snow at times heavy will persist through tonight. Additional snow accumulation up to 30 cm can be expected before the snow tapers off to a few flurries early Saturday morning.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions”.
