In a bizarre twist to a police investigation into a downtown break-and-enter, police apprehended a Trail man who allegedly left a note – including his name –  admitting to having committed the crime.

According to Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, a 33-year-old Trail man has been arrested and faces potential criminal charges in connection with this and other break-ins downtown.

“On July 3 at 3 a.m., the Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a commercial alarm at a business located in the 1100-block of Bay Avenue in Trail,” Wicentowich said in a prerss release. “The glass front door to the business had been smashed and police believe that entry had been gained into the interior. An investigation conducted by the RCMP resulted in a suspect allegedly responsible for the mischievous act being identified by police.”

In a later interview, Wicentowich added that it is unknown whether the suspect took anything from the restaurant.

“It is believed he committed other mischief in the downtown core,” Wicentowich said. “(The suspect) left a handwritten note stating he did the damage and left his name. We’re still investigating the motivation for this.”

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566.
