A suspect being held in Trail RCMP cells has be re-arrested and charged with new crimes, according to Acting Sgt. Devon Reid.

Reid said the 25-year-old Trail man was arrested on Aug. 22 after a series of crimes over a 24-hour period (beginning Monday) saw the man allegedly commit arson, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and break-and-enter to a residence in Trail, in four separate incidents.

Subsequent investigation led police to believe the suspect is also complicit in the aggravated assault of an elderly male in Trail’s downtown core in the early-morning hours of Aug. 22.

Reid said police have been unable to ascertain, and this juncture, whether the victim was known to his assailant.

The man will remain in police custody at least until his first court appearance, slated for Aug. 30 in Rossland court.
