Police are recommending charges of production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, against a 49-year-old Nelson man after responding to a call Saturday, Dec. 18.

Nelson RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little said police attended a landlord-tenant dispute in the 2700 block of Hwy 3A. While in the multi-unit building, the responding officer “noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from an upholstery shop (in the same building).   “A search warrant was later obtained resulting in the seizure of a significant amount of growing marijuana and related equipment.”   The man is slated to appear in court on March 8, 2011.   Police were called back to the same building the next day, after receiving a report indicating the landlord-tenant dispute had escalated dramatically.   “At approximately 2:30 p.m., (a call came in saying) that a fight was in progress involving a crow bar,” Sgt. Little said. “It was alleged that one male had attended the business to collect some money owing to a tenant in the building.   “An argument ensued whereby one male was struck with the crow bar. No serious injuries were sustained during the incident. One male, a 39-year-old Nelson resident, was later arrested and is to appear in court on April 6.   “Police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon, assault and uttering threats.”
