Fire levels house addition at Horlick's Point

Nelson Fire Department reported that no one was injured after responding to a house fire a the 2300 block of Bealby Road Wednesday afternoon at Horlick’s Point east of Nelson.

At approximately 3 p.m. the call came into the station that smoke was billowing from a two-bay detached garage and small building on the south side of Kootenay Lake.

When Nelson Fire Fighters arrived they found a 500-foot add-on to the existing house was on fire. Smoke could be seen across Kootenay Lake on the North Shore.

Two engines, two uitility vehicles and six fire fighters responded to the house blaze. The original house was saved but was severely damaged. Another house 20 feet from the blaze was not damaged.

No one was living in the house at the time of the fire.

Fire crews continued into the evening to mop-up the blaze. The fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.

Nelson Fire Department also responded to a medical emergency at around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
