Bikini-clad ATV-ers get license suspension for drinking and driving

Hot summer weather saw a hike in the number of people drinking and driving last weekend, including people driving boats and ATVs.
“You can be charged with impaired driving while operating any motor vehicle – even a scooter,” said RCMP Cpl. Deb Postnikoff.
A road block set up on Broadwater Road saw just such an incident, she added.
“The female operator of (an) ATV appeared to debate whether she would stop for police or attempt to flee and ended up making a good decision to carry on through the road block,” Postnikoff said, “but consequently, ended up receiving a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) after her breath samples provided into an Approved Screening Device resulted in “Warn” readings.” A total of three three-day IRPs were issued. “According to many boating enthusiasts coming off the lake and heading home, (residents) were happy to see police visibility and commented that many young people coming from the Syringa Park area had made a decision to walk and/or call for rides rather than risk operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol,” Postnikoff added. “Over the course of the weekend police estimate they checked approximately 200 vehicles.” “Other areas of the city that saw increased police patrols were Sandy Beach and Millenium Park beach area. Police disposed of a small quantity of liquor at both locations after finding several individuals consuming liquor in a public place. “Police would like to remind the Community that police will continue with increased patrols in the parks, beaches and boat launches. Random road checks will be implemented throughout the summer.
