Gresley-Jones leads local contingent after round one at B.C. Men's Amateur Championship at The Dunes in Kamloops
Ben Gresley-Jones of Rossland/Trail is tied for 22nd following the opening round Tuesday at the B.C. Men’s Amateur Golf Championship at The Dunes near Kamloops.
Gresley-Jones, who stumbled a bit on the front nine, shot a first-round 1-under-par to sit five shots behind first round leader Jeremy Osborne of Salmon Arm. Gresley-Jones finished the day with four birdies and three bogeys.
Richard Jung of Toronto and Daniel Bismeyer of Pitt Meadows are tied for second at 5-under-par.
Gresley-Jones leads the four-player West Kootenay contingent, featuring Nelson’s Josh Coletti and Jordan Melanson and Adam Pangburn of Kaslo.
Coletti is tied for 62nd after firing a 2-over-par 74 while Melanson, who has been tearing up the local golf scene, struggled with a 75.
Melanson, who bogeyd the first two holes and never recovered, and Pangburn are tied for 75th.
Round two on the 7,131-yard par 72 The Dunes course goes Wednesday.
Following round two cuts will be made to reduce the field for the final two rounds Thursday and Friday.
