It’s not like the Trail Smoke Eaters are not trying.

Despite out shooting the Silverbacks 40-27, it was Salmon Arm sweeping the two-game weekend series with a 3-2 B.C. Hockey League victory Saturday in Salmon Arm.

Salmon Arm won the opening game of the series 6-4 Friday in Trail.

A goal by Stefan Nicholishen with less than six minutes remaining in the game snapped a 2-2 tie and proved to be the difference.
Jeff Kennedy and Mak Barden gave Salmon Arm a 2-0 lead minutes into the second period.

However, Logan Proulx, on the power play, and Brent Baltus late in the frame tied the game up.

Matt Larose, in goal for Trail, lost for the fifth time in six games.
Friday the Smokies saw a lackluster second period come back to haunt the team as Salmon Arm scored five unanswered goals en route to the win.

Alex Gillies, Brett Knowles, Devin Mueller, with two, and Bryce Gervais, on the power play erased a 2-1 Trail lead after one period.
Baltus, Clayton Chessa, Nicholas Wong and Adam Fares replied for Trail.

The game was the first for Fares, traded earlier in the week from Victoria for future considerations.

Trail, last in the Interior Division with a 1-5-1-0 record, takes to the road this weekend for a pair of games in Prince George Friday and Saturday against the Spruce Kings.

Next home game is Wednesday, Oct. 19 against Penticton Vees.
