POLICE: Bush party goes bad

A Grand Forks man has been charged after a bush party took an ugly turn Sunday night.
Timothy LaFreniere was charged with aggrevated assault and is scheduled to appear in court today.
At about 3:00 a.m. on May 13 the Grand Forks RCMP were called out to the local party spot known as moto after a complaint about a man with a knife. The bush party was being attended by teenagers and others in their early twenties.
“Several altercations were reported and one assault that resulted in extensive injuries to another Grand Forks male,” said Staff Sargaent Jim Harrison. “The victim who is believed to have been struck with a glass liquor bottle had to be air lifted to Kelowna General Hospital where he remains in a medically induced coma.”
The victim will be facing severe reconstructive plastic surgery to his face and will possibly lose the use of his right eye, Harrison added.
Harrison reminds the public that underage and public consumption of alcohol is against the law. Police will be clamping down on bush parties and charges will be laid for infractions against the liquor act if needed.
Parents are advised to be aware of what their children are doing and the inherent dangers of allowing them to attend outdoor parties where there is no supervision, said Harrison.
“One victim is now facing life altering injuries, that is one victim too many,” he concluded.
