I have recently learned that, as part of a national campaign, a LEAD NOW ‘Blackmark Budget’ event has been organized to take place in front of my office on Saturday, June 02 at 12:00.  Concerned constituents will be taking a stand against the Conservative government’s 452 page Budget bill that will change Canada as we know it.

Although my duties require that I remain in Ottawa two of my staff, Laurel Walton and Gina Petrakos, will be in attendance to meet and provide information to those who come out.

The undemocratic and secretive Budget Bill is a “Trojan Horse” bill, sneaking in hundreds of pages that will simultaneously amend more than 60 acts, many of which have nothing to do with the fiscal measures to be implemented for 2012–2013. Some of these measures will:

·        gut environmental protection;

·        threaten fisheries and other resources;

·        cut public pensions and job standards;

·        reduce democratic accountability; and

·        undermine public health care.

The Conservatives rejected our NDP proposal to split this massive 452-page bill that would permit study and debate by appropriate committees.

Alex Atamanenko is the MP for BC Southern Interior.
