Environment Canada issues rainfall warning for Kootenays

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of the Kootenay and Columbia regions.

The Environment Canada website said moisture wrapping around a slow-moving upper low situated off the coast of the Washington state is slated to produce significant rainfall amounts to portions of the BC interior late Friday and Saturday.

The 30 millimeters of precipitation combined with the already high river levels may cause flooding situation in the affected areas.

The rain was expected to begin over much the Kootenays Friday before spreading to the Columbias Saturday morning.

Saturday there is a risk of a thunderstorm late in the afternoon and into the early evening.
