Five Mile Creek fire continues to burn

The Five Mile Creek northeast of Nelson continues to burn as fire crews worked through Monday attempting to get a handle on the blaze.
“The fire is not threatening any communities or structures but is generating smoke and fire suppression activity that is visible to local communities,” the Southeast Fire Centre said.
“Fire is burning in a watershed and fire officials are taking precautions to keep the area protected.”
Thirteen firefighters along with three helicopters and airtanker are on site.
The fire, which has grown to three hectares as of Monday afternoon, started around 1:30 p.m. Sunday from lightning.
The fire is zero contained.
Meanwhile, northwest of Castlegar the Syringa Creek wildfire is approximately 1.5 hectares in size.
Currently there are 16 firefighters battling the blaze with three helicopters and an airtanker in support.

Near Creston, crews are seeing improvements at the Skimmer Horn Mountain fire.
The fire is now 45 per cent contained after only 10 per cent of the blaze was handled Sunday.
Thirty firefighters and four helicopters are battling the fire that is located in difficult, steep terrian.
The Southeast Fire Centre said several other spot-sized fires (less than one hectare) are burning as a result of thunderstorms within the region during the past week.
Most of these fires are located in remote areas and are not affecting nearby communities.
