UPDATED: Car involved in power pole crash Thursday allegedly stolen from Heritage City Auto

A Slocan Valley man has more on his plate than just surviving a car crash.
The man has now been arrested for Break Enter and Theft and Possession of Stolen Property after the vehicle that crashed into a power pole early Thursday morning was allegedly stolen .
“Police investigation confirmed that the vehicle in question was the same car stolen from Heritage City Auto minutes before the collision,” said Staff Sergeant Dan Seibel of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment.
The crazy morning started at 5 a.m. at Heritage City Auto when police responded to a break and enter report south of Nelson at Ymir Road.
When RCMP arrived they found a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am vehicle with no license plates stolen from the used auto dealer.
Approximately 15 minutes later, a call came into police of an accident 1200 block of Highway 6 in Crescent Valley. A car had lost control, gone off the road and struck a power pole, knocking down the FortisBC lines.
Police attended the scene and found the car involved in the accident was the same 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with no license plates.
The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old male subject from Slocan Valley, was being tended to by Crescent Valley First Responders.
The suspect was transported by B.C. Ambulance to Kootenay Lake Hospital. FortisBC was called to shutoff the power which was out for residents in Vallican, Slocan Park and Crescent Valley until approximately 7:30 a.m.
The suspect, later arrested for Break Enter and Theft and Possession of Stolen Property, was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on November 6 and issued an Undertaking with various conditions.
Man taken to hospital after car strikes pole in Crescent Valley
A man was taken to hospital early Thursday morning after his small compact car slammed into a power pole west of Nelson on Highway 6 adjacent the beach parking lot in Crescent Valley.
The man was the lone occupant in the accident that happened around 5:30 a.m.
“I was just getting up and heard a crash and the power went out,” said a witness living next to the accident scene.
“I grabbed a flashlight and cell phone and went out to see what happened.”
The witness, who called 911, said the man was bloodied but was able to get out of the vehicle.
RCMP responded to the scene along with local volunteer fire department and BC Ambulance.
The man was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance.
FortisBC was called to deal with the downed power lines and currently have errected barrier tape around the cut-up power pole, keeping people out of the parking lot until crews are able to return to install a new pole.
A FortisBC representative said the accident knocked out power to approximately 1500 customers in the Crescent Valley, Slocan Park and Vallican areas.
Power was restored to customers at 7:30 a.m.
