No joke, PST back in BC on April Fools Day

Most people got out to bed this morning to a few April Fools jokes . . . a la, sugar in the salt shaker, clock set ahead, etc.
However, most everyone would never had thought the B.C. Government would ever get rid of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on April Fools Day.
But that’s just what happened as Provincial Sales Tax (PST) returned to B.C. Monday.
The brought back from the dead, PST replaced the HST, which was introduced on July 1, 2010 and rejected less than two years later by voters in a referendum.
Under the PST/GST system many items will go down in price.
A quick list of a few items that will be seven per cent less at the checkout line Monday included:
- Landscaping
- Veterinary services
- Housecleaning
- Dry cleaning
- Tailoring
- Home renovations
- Accounting
- Wedding planning
- Funeral services
- Over-the-counter drugs
- Newspaper and magazine subscriptions
- Domestic air, rail and bus travel originating in BC
Eating out at restaurants will also be seven per cent cheaper when the waiter drops the tab on the table at the end of dinner.
That, of course, is unless alcohol is on the bill.

The BC Government is reporting on its website there are more than 70,000 businesses in the province not ready for the change Monday.
