Many people experienced a slow lunchtime commute today, after a three-vehicle accident on Columbia Avenue this afternoon.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Pollock said police received a call at 12:26 p.m. indicating there was an MVI near the Flamingo Motel on the city’s main thoroughfare.

In an odd coincidence, the white snowy stuff was not a factor in an accident involving three white vehicles – Pollock said the road was almost completely dry when a White Chevy pick-up stopped in traffic, with a white Audi stopping behind the truck.

Pollock said the driver of the Audi noticed a white Ford coming up behind him very quickly, and pulled ahead on the side of the road, almost beside the Chevy.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Ford was still unable to stop in time and hit the Audi, then lightly clipped the back of the Chevy.

Pollock said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

“The driver of the Ford was charged with following too closely,” he said. “There were no injuries, but there was signifcant damage done to the Audi.”

Traffic was slowed but not stopped while the accident was cleared.

In related news, yesterday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m., a Ford Focus went off Broadwater Road on the Robson side of the Pass Creek Bridge, according to Pollock. The single-vehicle MVI saw no injuries.
