Labour Board rules remedial summer school essential
B.C. Labour Relations Board ruled during the weekend that remedial summer school courses are essential.
However, the LBR said in its ruling this decision is reserved for students in Grade 10, 11 and 12 who failed one of the classes and cannot make it up in the next school year.
No word how that affects summer school classes in Kootenay Lake School District 8 as courses are only offered at the Distance Education School at the former Central Elementary location.
The B.C. Teachers’ Federation originally said it would picket summer schools in the province.
The LRB ordered the province to remove lockout provisions for those teachers assigned to summer school.
It also said the union is permitted to picket the summer school sites, but must allow teachers and students access to the schools.
