Leafs need OT to knock off pesky Bruins; Rebels outlast Braves
Despite lagging in the basement of the Murdoch Divison with seven wins in 26 games, the Border Bruins are proving points do not come easy against the Grand Forks-based franchise.
The Nelson Leafs needed overtime to secure the two points in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Tuesday in the Boundary City.
Robson Cramer scored his second of the game at four minutes of overtime to give Nelson the narrow victory.
Austin Lindsay and Rayce Miller also scored for the shorthanded Leafs, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit after the first period.
Leaf captain Aaron Dunlap finished the game with three assists.
Joey Guzzo scored twice for Grand Forks while Josh Gladman added a single.
The win keeps the Leafs in striking distance of first-place Castlegar Rebels in the tightly-contested Murdoch Division.
The Rebels maintained a one-point advantage in the Murdoch Division standings by edging Spokane Braves 5-3 Tuesday in the Lilac City.
Lindan Calliou and Mike Bhatoa each scored twice to lead the Rebels.
The wins by the two West Kootenay rivals sets up an important home-and-home series beginning Friday in Castlegar.
Saturday Castlegar visits the NDCC Arena for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
