Geall outlasts Jackson to advance to Page Playoff 1-2 game at 2016 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championships

Sean Geall has already had a great week after seeing first hand the birth of his third child.
The Royal City skip added to the excitement after qualifying for the Page Playoff 1-2 game Saturday at the 2016 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championships by outlasting Glen Jackson of Victoria 5-1 in the B-Final Friday at the Nelson Curling Club.
Geall, third Andrew Bilesky, second Steve Kopf and lead Mark Olsen broke open a tightly played contest by scoring two in the ninth before adding a deuce in the tenth after Jackson missed on his final attempt to blast out the a house full of the wrong-coloured rocks.
“(Jackson rink) kept it pretty tight but we were able to break it open in the ninth,” Geall said following the contest.
“They wanted keep it clean, but we’ve been playing pretty well so it really doesn’t matter what type of game teams play.”
Geall now advances to Saturday’s 2 p.m. Page Playoff 1-2 contest against A-event winner and defending BC Champion Jim Cotter of Vernon.
Cotter edged Michael Johnson of New Westminster 5-4 Thursday to earn the top seed in the playoff.
“I don’t think we’ve played Jim this year but we’ve played against him a lot over the years so we know what to expect,’’ Geall explained.
“But they’re playing very well right now so we’re going to have to play our best to have a chance at advancing.”
The winner of the game advances directly to Sunday’s 4 p.m. final.
The loser gets another chance at the top prize, meeting the winner of the Page Playoff 3-4 contest.
Those two teams will be decided in the final draw Friday night as four teams playoff for the two remaining spots.
Playing for third seed is Dean Joanisse and Neil Dangerfield while the Glen Jackson rink is up against Jason Montgomery.
Joanisse defeated A-event finalist Johnson 8-4 in eight ends while Dangerfield knocked out Kelowna’s Jeff Richard 8-2 in seven ends.
Meanwhile Jason Montgomery blasted Creston’s Chris Ducharme 7-1 in six ends.
Both semi final and final games are being showed live on Sportsnet Sunday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
