New from the Kootenays: 'The VinylCast'
New goings-on in the Kootenay music world: a local group is putting a new spin on the resurgence of vinyl with a brand-new project. It’s called The VinylCast, and it aims to deliver music on vinyl to music lovers – right to their doors. (Or post offices, as the case may be.) It launches globally this month, and will also put Rossland on the map as a must-stop location for bands passing through.
Created by a team of members based in Rossland and Kaslo, and developed with the help of artists including K.Flay, Mother Mother, and Ron Sexsmith, The VinylCast has been refined with input from listeners, music industry executives and the artists themselves. The goal was to create the best possible medium to build relationships between artists and fans.
Andrew Zwicker, host and a founder of The VinylCast group, says, “Each episode of the 12-part series features two unique, live acoustic performances by emerging artists such as the Brothers Landreth, who are featured in the first episode.” Zwicker then sits down with the artists for a candid interview and explores the stories behind the songs.
Paul Heinrichs of On The Road Management says, “The VinylCast has tapped into the ‘behind the scenes’ approach that I look for. This show has hit on exactly what makes music personal to the listener”
Zwicker explains that recordings are done in “acoustically stunning venues like the Capitol Theatre in Nelson, and the Old Firehall in Rossland, with a very high-end recording set-up and audio engineer. Each show is then professionally produced, and mastered for vinyl, and pressed to 150-gram vinyl. We then deliver each of the 12 episodes on 12-inch LPs and digital downloads, from the Kootenays to listeners’ doors around the world.”
Zwicker summarizes, “At the end of the day, it’s all about sharing that unique opportunity to get inside the heads, hearts and souls of the artists, and capturing some truly stunning, unique, live acoustic versions of their songs.”
