Trail/Castlegar CRU cops jail alleged drug dealer
A Trail man is heading to court this afternoon after police arrested him and executed a search warrant on his house, according to RCMP Cpl. Devon Reid.
“On May 17, at approximately 12 p.m., the Trail and Castlegar joint Crime Reduction Unit arrested a 46-year-old male from Trail for trafficking of controlled substances. Subsequently, at 5 p.m. on the same day, a search warrant was executed at the male’s residence located on Rossland Avenue in Trail.
“A large quantity of controlled substances and Canadian currency was seized during the search. The accused is currently in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing on several charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.”
The man will be appearing before a court this afternoon.
In a telephone interview at 1:25 p.m, Reid spoke to the relevance of the currency.
“People who are involved in illicit activities don’t generally put it (the money generated) in the bank, because financial transactions over $10,000 have to be reported,” he said. “So they usually keep it in an unusual place – like their bedroom.
“Even if you try to buy a $40,000 car in cash, that has to be reported.”
He said police would like to remind the public to report suspicions activity to their local police or call Crime Stoppers
