Smokies welcome Terness, Cromar
The Trail Smoke Eaters Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce the club has committed to goaltender Logan Terness (’02) for the 2019/20 season along with signing goaltender Chad Cromar (’99) for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.
Terness, 16, recently spent the last month with the Smoke Eaters, getting into his first three games of his BC Hockey League career including a 16-save relief appearance in his first outing against the Penticton Vees. The 5’10”, 155-pound netminder also started twice for Trail before heading back to Major Midget for the remainder of the season after a successful tenure in Junior ‘A’.
The Burnaby, BC native is currently in his first season with the Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BC Major Midget League, playing in 9 games with a 5-1-0-1 record to go along with a 1.75 GAA and 3 shutouts. Terness just came off of a successful Mac’s Tournament in Calgary, Alberta, where he played in three games, posting a 2-0 record along with a 3.91 GAA and a .900 SV% while the Chiefs advanced into the quarter-final of the annual Midget tournament.
“I’m excited to announce that we have committed Logan Terness for next season,” commented Smoke Eaters General Manager & Head Coach Jeff Tambellini, “We have been impressed from day one of training camp with his performance and preparation and believe he will be a key member of our 2019-20 recruiting class. We believe it’s best for Logan to return to his BCMML team for the remainder of the season and play a major role to finish off the season.”
Cromar, 19, joins the Smoke Eaters for the remainder of the 2018/19 season after spending the beginning of the year with the Aldergrove Kodiaks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) where he played in 12 games so far. The 6’2”, 175-pound goaltender held a 7-5 record over those dozen games with a 3.18 GAA and a .903 SV% along with a shutout.
The Mission, BC native is no stranger to the BCHL, getting into a pair of games during the 2016/17 season before playing with the Langley Rivermen the following season, playing in 14 games. The 19-year-old held a 3.66 GAA as well as an .883 SV% with the Riv’ before joining the Kodiaks for this season.
“With Logan returning to the BCMML, we have acquired Chad Cromar to fill our last goaltending position going forward,” continued Tambellini, “His age and previous BCHL experience with Langley will help our group as we prepare for the playoffs.”
The Smoke Eaters would like to welcome Logan and Chad, along with their families, to the City of Trail and the Smoke Eaters organization.
The Smoke Eaters return to action after their 12-day holiday break with a matchup against the Mainland Division’s Surrey Eagles on home ice. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM from the Trail Memorial Centre on another “Retro Night” in Trail with tickets available for purchase at the Smoke Eaters Main Office as well as at the door ahead of the opening face-off.
