On May 25, 2019, the regional RCMP detachment responded to a report of a “serious assault with a weapon” in the 2300 block of Washington Street in Rossland.  The 24-year-old man who is the victim of the assault was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital, where he has undergone surgery for injuries to his neck. A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm under section 267 of the Criminal Code.

The accused and the victim are known to each other; the attack appears to have been the result of an outbreak of temper during a dispute or some other source of resentment.  The police think that there is no danger to the public.

The weapon in this assault was a ceramic coffee mug; one resident commented that this does not diminish the gravity of the assault or the seriousness of the victim’s injuries.  The accused will make his first appearance in Provincial Court in Rossland, on August 15, 2019.
