Trail pair runs afoul of law again, earns new laundry list of charges

A local duo is once again facing criminal charges after repeated run-ins with the law, according to Trail top cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“On Sept. 16, at 9:29 p.m. the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP conducted a traffic stop and investigation into a 37-year-old male driver and his 24-year-old female passenger on Seven Mile Dam Road in Trail. The investigation led to the recovery of stolen property, the seizure of drugs, and the discovery of other offences,” Wicentowich said.
“The driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle contrary to Section 95 of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act. The driver and his female passenger breached a lawful condition to have “no contact” with each other contrary to Section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code. The pair was found to be in possession of small amounts of Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, and Ketamine contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. A search of their vehicle by the RCMP led to the recovery of a significant amount of stolen property.”
Wicentowich said the 37-year-old male driver was remanded into custody and will make an appearance on Sept. 24 in Provincial Court in Rossland. The 24-year-old female passenger was released on a Recognizance of Bail with several conditions and will make her first appearance on Oct. 17 in Provincial Court in Castlegar.
The pair is also facing other criminal charges stemming from previous occurrences in Trail, Salmo, Nelson, and Abbotsford. The RCMP continue to investigate.

On Sept. 13, at 11:35 p.m., the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP was conducting a routine vehicle patrol in East Trail when an RCMP officer located a gray van with no valid insurance driving in the area of McBeth Street and Columbia Avenue. The vehicle was detained roadside.
The RCMP officer approached the vehicle only to discover that there was no one sitting in the driving seat of the van, however, there were two ‘passengers’. The police officer noted that no one had exited the van. A short investigation revealed that one of the ‘passengers’ was the 37-year-old male driver who was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle under Section 95 of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act. The RCMP are pursuing a charge against the male for driving while prohibited.
The driver and his 24-year-old female passenger were also bound by a lawful condition to have no contact with each other and were arrested for Breach of Undertaking contrary to Section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code.
The driver and passenger will make their first appearance on December 5, 2019, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.
