Season’s Greetings!

On behalf of the Board and staff at Columbia Basin Trust, I’d like to send gratitude and heartfelt thanks to you this holiday season.

This past year brought immense challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic changed our reality, and the ongoing impacts continue to influence all aspects of our lives.

Despite these hardships, it also showed us how fortunate we are to live in the Columbia Basin, in communities filled with remarkable people working hard every day to make life better for all of us. We celebrate some of these stories of collaboration and perseverance in the 2020 edition of Our Trust magazine.

This year also marked two milestones: our 25th anniversary and plans to renew a long-term strategic plan. We hoped to be in communities for much of the year celebrating and conversing in person with you and your neighbours, but instead we were compelled to change the plan and engage with residents virtually. Despite this setback, residents of the region have once again shown their passion for their communities and generously gave us their time and feedback to develop a shorter two-year plan.

The time given to share perspectives is a reminder of what has remained constant throughout the Trust’s 25 years—that people here care deeply about strengthening where we live, now and for future generations.

This passion and tenacity were evident in the early 1990s, when the residents of the region raised their voices, faced challenges and put in years of hard work resulting in the creation of Columbia Basin Trust. Learn how together we have travelled this unprecedented path together, bringing life to dreams and helping the region flourish. Read the story in our new book: Columbia Basin Trust: A story of people, power and a region united.

Thank you to everyone who helps us deliver on our mandate, including our Board of Directors and staff, our advisory and adjudication committees, our partners, and all who live in the Basin. The accomplishments seen in the region over the past 25 years, and especially in this past year, are because of the dedication of people like you. Thank you for your ongoing and remarkable efforts.

To help us look forward to a new year and to celebrate the beauty of the place we share together, our #BasinLife 2021 Calendaris filled with stunning images by local photographers. Request your copy online.

From all of us at the Trust, I am wishing you and yours a peaceful and safe holiday season and a healthy, happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Johnny Strilaeff

President and Chief Executive Officer
