On April 22, 2022, at 2:40 p.m. a Trail and Greater District officer was conducting a routine patrol when he observed a black 2018 Toyota Tundra allegedly travelling southbound at a speed of 153 km/h in a 70 km/h on Hwy 22, in Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“The officer attempted to detain the truck that fled from the area while making a series of dangerous and risky driving decisions. The truck was located almost immediately parked outside a building in the 800 block of Rossland Avenue,” Wicentowich said.

Trail RCMP officers attended the area and quickly located a 26-year-old Surrey man and a 27-year-old Castlegar woman near the parked truck. Officers placed both under arrest for Flight from Peace Officer contrary to Section 320.17 of the Criminal Code and taken into custody. Both parties were released from custody after a short investigation.

“The 26-year-old Surrey man will be facing one count of Flight from Peace Officer contrary to Section 320.17 of the Criminal Code. He also received a $483 fine for Excessive Speed contrary to Section 148(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and the truck was impounded for up to 7 days.

“If you witnessed this incident and have information to provide, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.”
