I am seeking re-election to Trail City Council because I am committed to following through on the positive progress we have made towards resolving the complex and multi-layered challenges that our City has been increasingly faced with over the past several years.

It has been an honour to serve you as both a Councillor and Deputy Mayor. With your support, I look forward to continuing to Listen, Learn and Lead.

In 1998 I completed my B.A in Business Administration from the Anglo-American University in Prague, furthered by an Associate Certificate in Financial Management from BCIT in 2009; Certificate in Business Management with distinction from BCIT in 2011; Associate Certificate in Leadership with distinction from BCIT in 2012 and the Credit Union Executive Advanced Management program in 2022 through Cornell University.

My platform is simple. Going forward my advocacy, focus and determination will be based on these 5 pillars:

I will advocate for Social Justice issues including affordable and market housing, mental health and Food Security.

I will continue to advocate for Community Safety and Security for ALL citizens

I will advocate for Diversity and Inclusion

I will continue a strong tradition of prudent fiscal oversight of our tax dollar

and lastly support responsible investment and development in our local economy.

I hope to achieve these platforms through learnt knowledge over the past four years as a Councillor, experienced gained in this role and a continued approach to the strong relationships forged during this time. Many of you also know me as the Branch Manager of Kootenay Savings here in Trail and Fruitvale. In my career and through my role in the community it has allowed me to support and direct considerable financial investment across our region such as housing developments, hospitality upstarts, housing development and commercial business investment.

I am committed to our community and proud to be a KBRH Health Foundation Board member, which continues to support bringing top notch health care to our local residents. I am also the Council liaison and previous Director of the Trail and District Chamber of Commerce, The Lower Columbia Initiatives Corporation and past Chair and current Vice Chair of the West Kootenay Investment Coop – which is fundamentally dear to my being where local investors are funding local business, in a cooperative manner.

I am a fourth generation Kootenay boy and my daughter the 5th – Kootenay girl. Like many reading this article our families came here for better opportunities, and I am running for re-election to ensure those opportunities continue to exist both today and into the future. I look forward to continuing to work with local committees and on the multiple boards I serve, to create open dialogue and strive towards solutions that will make our community the best it can be. I believe in uniting together for economic sustainability, respect for all and supporting local.

Let’s see challenges as opportunities and not as barriers to achieve the best for Trail. Trail is our home and #BetterIsAlreadyHere. On October 15th Vote Paul Butler.
