Two cops assaulted in two separate incidents in a single day
On Saturday, April 29 at 6:54 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 34-year-old Trail man had allegedly crashed a green Kawasaki motorcycle into the railing of the Columbia River Skywalk in the 1800 block of Columbia Avenue in Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
He said the man was believed to have sustained a serious injury to his face before he fled the scene. The bridge railing was damaged during the incident, and the damage was reported to the City of Trail for inspection and repair.
“The 34-year-old Trail man is under investigation for Driving while Prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Mischief to Public Property contrary to Section 430(1) of the Criminal Code,” Wicentowich said.
“Trail RCMP is asking for assistance from the public in identifying the owner of the motorcycle (see photograph). If you have any information about the motorcycle, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.”
Later that same day, another officer was allegedly assaulted.
“On Saturday, April 29 at 11:52 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP and BC Highway Patrol officers responded to a complaint about a 22-year-old Fruitvale woman who allegedly physically attacked a group of people and bit one man inside a residence on Moller Road in Fruitvale,” Wicentowich said..
“Officers attended at the request of the occupants of the residence and detained the intoxicated woman for investigation. The woman attempted to bite the officer during her detainment and was taken into custody after being physically subdued. The woman continued her physical attacks against the officers and threatened to stab an officer during the transport to the cell block at the Trail Detachment. Officers lodged the woman until she was sober. She was released the next day on conditions and will have an upcoming appearance in court.”
He said Trail RCMP will recommend one count of Resisting Arrest contrary to Section 129 of the Criminal Code and one count of Uttering Threats contrary to Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code.
