Castlegar woman forfeits at-home sentence for prison in the face of new charges

A Castlegar woman serving an at-home, conditional sentence for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of an unauthorized weapon in now serving her time in prison, according to Castlegar RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Monty Taylor.
“In November of 2022, 34-year-old Robyn Poznikoff was found guilty of two counts for the possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as well as possession of an unauthorized weapon contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code,” Taylor said. “The charges were a result of a 2020 Castlegar RCMP investigation which included a search warrant to a residence associated to Ms. Poznikoff where police seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, Canadian currency, a conducted energy weapon, a firearm and a vehicle which was later forfeited through the B.C. Civil Forfeiture Office.”
Taylor said that on July 19, 2023, the courts sentenced Poznikoff in regard to the 2020 police investigation. Poznikoff avoided a jail sentence, however was ordered to serve a two-year conditional sentence order, which was to be served in her residence with a period of probation to follow and a firearm prohibition for 10 years.
“Just over three months into serving her two-year conditional sentence, Ms. Poznikoff was again arrested for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs,” Taylor added.
On Oct. 25, 2023, the Castlegar Crime Reduction Unit, with support from frontline general duty officers, executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 5200 block of Broadwater Road in Robson, Taylor said. The search warrant was obtained to further investigate the trafficking of drugs and investigators seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, currency, a vehicle, and other items consistent with the trafficking of illicit drugs. “Ms. Poznikoff had been held in custody since her Oct. 25, 2023 arrest,” Taylor said. “She was brought before the courts in regard to breaching conditions attached to her Conditional Sentence Order, where the Supreme Court Justice revoked the Conditional Sentence Order directing Ms. Poznikoff to serve the remainder of her two year sentence in jail.
“In relation to the October 25, 2023 search warrant, Ms. Poznikoff has been formally charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Her next appearance in relation to these new charges is March 6, 2024.”

On Oct. 25, 2023, officers with Castlegar RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with support from frontline general duty officers, executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 5200 block of Broadwater Road in Robson, according to Castlegar detachment commander Sgt. Mony Taylor.
“The search warrant was obtained to further investigate the trafficking of drugs. Upon execution of the search warrant, four occupants; two youth, a 60-year-old male from Robson, BC, along with a 34-year-old woman, were taken into custody.
“Investigators seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, currency, and other items consistent with the trafficking of illicit drugs.
“The two youth were released to a responsible adult, and the 60-year-old male was later released on bail conditions to appear in Castlegar Court February 7th, 2023.”
Taylor said at the time of the search warrant, the 34-year-old female was found in breach of conditions attached to her Conditional Sentence Order. She has been held in custody to appear before the Court.
RCMP are continuing their investigation.
