Castlegar woman doubles down on arrests in Trail

On Thursday, April 4 at 11:30 p.m., according to police, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol when he allegedly spotted a 41-year-old Castlegar woman driving a vehicle, while prohibited from doing so, in the 800 block of Farwell Street in Trail.
“The officer went to detain her and the vehicle roadside but, by the time he turned around to stop it, he located the vehicle parked and unoccupied,” said Trail RCMP detachment commnder Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “He spotted the driver leaving the area on foot. The officer conducted patrols until he located the woman again; however, she again gave him the slip
. The woman eventually returned to her vehicle and the officer was able to intercept her. The woman denied to the officer that she was driving the vehicle. The officer informed her that he had seen her doing so.”
Wicentowich said the officer arrested the woman for Drive while Prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. The 41-year-old Castlegar woman was released after being issued an Appearance Notice for May 23, 2024, where she will make her first appearance on this matter in Provincial Court, in Rossland. The vehicle was impounded for up to seven days and issued a notice to repair outstanding defects.
He said Trail RCMP will forward a report recommending one count of Drive while Prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act to Crown Counsel.
Then on Saturday, April 6, at 10:50 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol when she detained the same 41-year-old Castlegar woman in a vehicle roadside on Fifth Avenue in Trail.
Wicentowich said the officer asked the woman to identified herself and for her BC driver’s licence which she was unable to produce. The woman then attempted to walk away from the officer at the scene. The officer stopped the woman and arrested for Obstructing a Police officer contrary to Section 129 to of the Criminal Code. The officer identified the woman and discovered that she had been arrested two days previous for the same alleged offence.
“The officer released the woman after she was issued an Appearance Notice for June 20, 2024, where she will make her first appearance on this matter in Provincial Court, in Rossland. The vehicle was impounded for up to seven days,” Wicentowich said.
“Trail RCMP will forward a report recommending one count of Drive while Prohibited contrary to Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act to Crown Counsel.”
The officer also seized two packages of unstamped tobacco and a small quantity of a white powdery substance believed to be street drugs.
She is the driver of her own misfortune,
Wicentowich said.
