Castlegar man killed in fiery collision Friday
On May 31, at 5:55 a.m., Castlegar RCMP were notified of a collision which occurred along Highway 22 in the Blueberry area between Castlegar and Trail. The collision involved a pick-up truck and transport truck which were both engulfed in flames after the collision.
Emergency services attended and identified that each vehicle had only one occupant. The 60-year-old driver of the transport truck from the Trail area was treated for their injuries and transported to hospital whereas the 47-year-old driver of pickup truck from Castlegar unfortunately had succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the collision.
The highway remained closed for a length of time while police investigated the collision and the vehicles were removed.
The investigation has identified the pickup was travelling north and unexpectedly crossed the center line of the roadway causing a head on collision with the transport truck.
