Investigation begins after Victoria Street Bridge in Trail catches fire

The Victoria Street Bridge in downtown Trail appears to have escaped structural damage following a fire Tuesday evening Trail and Greater District RCMP said in a media release.

Trail and Greater District RCMP said that on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 8:38 p.m. RCMP officers and Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to a fire underneath the west end of the Victoria Street Bridge.

RCMP said a camp located underneath the bridge caught fire and caused the closure of the bridge for approximately one hour while emergency crews extinguished it.

“First responders noted the bridge sustained damage to electrical wiring and components; however, appeared to be structurally undamaged,” the media release said.

“No one was injured in this incident.”

A police investigator has spoken to an occupant of the camp and a person of interest, and are seeking video surveillance of the area.

Illegal version of Self-Checkout

On Friday, August 2, 2024, at 8:29 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of a shoplifting at a business in the 1600 block of Marcolin Drive, in Trail, BC.

A man allegedly stolen several items using a duffle bag from the business and drove away from the scene in a 2004 red and black Chevrolet Silverado truck.

The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 25-years-old, 6’0 tall, with pinky spikey hair and wearing a black dress.

The matter remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the identity of the man or witnessed this crime, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.
