The lights are on, the signs are up, construction is complete, and the doors are open! The Skills Centre invites you to our grand opening on October 17 to celebrate the completion of 14 months of renovation and our move into our new building.
“We had a vision for the renovation of this building to make it the greenest, most inclusive and accessible building in Trail, and we are thrilled that the completed project exceeded our high expectations,” says Morag Carter, executive director of the Skills Centre.
“The local businesses that worked with us on the renovation caught our enthusiasm to make this building an asset for the community, a welcoming, bright place for clients and for the other non-profits that are sharing the space with us. We are so happy to have our official grand opening and share it with the people in our community,” says Mary Lawson, chair of the Skills Centre’s board of directors.
The open house takes place Thursday, October 17, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the new building at 1060 Eldorado Street in downtown Trail. It will begin with an Indigenous welcoming ceremony followed by live music, food and beverages and tours of the facility.
“Along with our partners, we can properly support community programming in a state of the art, accessible, sustainable, warm and welcoming building. And we invite you to join us at our grand opening on October 17,” Carter says.
This investment in community would not have been possible if these funders, donors and contributors didn’t share our vision for the building. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! This project has been made possible by funders and donors including: the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund and Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program, Columbia Basin Trust, Kootenay Savings Community Foundation, Etsi BC, the Peter Gilgan Foundation, the Trottier Family Foundation, Teck, Small Business BC, Fortis, Hil-Tech Contracting and individuals through Canada Helps.
The Skills Centre building renovation is the culmination of a dream the non-profit has had for many years. It was an opportunity to invest in the community, build a permanent home with room to grow, and create a space to share with other non-profit organizations that provide complementary services.
