Join Robson Firefighters on and Sept. 7 and 8 as they host the fifth annual Firefighter Games in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.  Be sure to attend this FREE family-friendly event that will kick off with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m Friday, September 7 at the Pass Creek Regional Exhibition Fairgrounds.

To show their support for people with neuromuscular disorders, Robson Firefighters organize the Firefighter Games to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move.” The Firefighter Games are a series of events that volunteer and paid firefighters compete in. The events are all designed to be highly entertaining, building into the finale, Mayday Mayday Mayhem, a firefighting obstacle course. The two days will feature nine different competitions, the Pharmasave Castlegar Kids Zone, food vendors and more. Saturday evening will feature two live bands: Baker Street Blues and Val Kilmer and the New Coke.

Since 1954, Canadian Firefighters have been helping Muscular Dystrophy Canada fight the battle against muscular dystrophy—a group of over 100 types of neuromuscular disorders characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles. Over time, many people with neuromuscular disorders are unable to walk, speak, or ultimately breathe. Some disorders are life-threatening and presently, there is no cure.

“We are excited to present a new look and format this year—we will have some events conducted after dusk, when fire and smoke props can be appreciated,” said Dustin LePage, MD Canada Chair, and Captain with Robson Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) and lead organizer. “As always, a huge thanks to the business community and our volunteers. We could not execute this event without their support.”

“This will be our fifth year, which really shows the success of the games!” said Robson Fire Chief Jeff Grant. “With the support of the RDCK Fire Service and Departments this is shaping up to be the best year yet. This event is really starting to develop and the payback to Muscular Dystrophy Canada is huge! The Robson fire department is extremely proud to bring this event to the community and we are looking forward to a truly amazing time.”

The Firefighter Games are hosted in partnership with International Firefighter Games, Inc. and all revenues generated at the event are donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada to support their mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure.

Since its incorporation, more than 800 Fire Departments and Associations have supported Muscular Dystrophy Canada across Canada raising over $3 million annually. Firefighters are Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s largest network of supporters.
