A Trail man is facing charges including assault with a weapon and uttering threats after an incident over the weekend, according to RCMP NCOIC Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On May 14, at 2 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP officers were conducting a proactive foot patrol when they were alerted to an ongoing alleged incident between a 38-year-old Trail man and 23-year-old Trail woman in downtown Trail,” Wicentowich said.

“The man and woman knew each other before the incident. The man had allegedly been stalking and harassing the woman. The woman had rejected his aggressive advances and upset the man. The man uttered threats toward the woman and threatened to hit her with a large flashlight. Witnesses to the incident alerted the officers who arrested the man.

“RCMP officers seized a large flashlight from the man. Officers later released the 38-year-old Trail on restrictive conditions including no contact with the woman.

“Trail RCMP will recommend criminal charges to Crown Counsel that will include a count of Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code and a count of Uttering Threats contrary to Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code.”

The 38-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance on July 21, 2022, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.
