Pedestrian vs truck accident in downtown core sees Trail man hospitalized
An accident on Trail’s main drag during yesterday’s lunchtime rush hour saw one man sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke.
He said the call came in at 12:14 p.m., indicating a 10-ton truck had been navigating a right-hand turn onto Victoria Street by the Best Western downtown, when it struck a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian was on the truck’s right-hand side, crossing legally on the crosswalk,” Oelke said. “The driver, a 57-year-old man from Castlegar, didn’t see him.”
The 31-year-old Trail resident was transported to hospital with a suspected broken hip. The driver was shaken but uninjured.
Oelke said the investigation is ongoing, and it’s possible that charges under the Motor Vehicle Act may be laid against the driver.
