City hires Collections Coordinator for the Trail Museum and Archives
The City of Trail is pleased to announce that Joyce Austin will be joining the City as the part-time Collections Coordinator for the Trail Museum and Archives, effective Feb. 26.
Austin will work directly with Sarah Benson-Lord, the Museum and Archives Manager, in the new Trail Riverfront Centre scheduled to open later this spring. Austin’s main duties will include handling accruals to the Trail Historical Society’s (THS) artifact and archival collections, and research and curatorial duties.
“I am thrilled to welcome Joyce to the Trail Museum and Archives,” said Benson-Lord. “Although working as a City team is new, our working relationship in a museum environment is well-established. Joyce has been working with the THS collections and archives for the last 18 years.”
The transition into Austin’s new role with the City will be seamless. In addition to the years spent with the THS, she brings extensive experience in collections and archival procedures, and small museum management as the former manager of the Rossland Museum.
“I am very excited to have been chosen for the new position of Collections Coordinator for the City of Trail,” said Austin. “I am familiar with the archival and artifact collections of the Trail Historical Society and look forward to working with Sarah at the new Riverfront Centre in a state-of-the-art facility.”
“This is a particularly exciting time for Joyce to join the team as we prepare to open the Trail Museum and Archives in the new Trail Riverfront Centre,” said Benson-Lord. “We feel confident with our newly designed exhibits and research space, and we look forward to sharing them with everyone.”
About the Trail Museum and Archives and the Trail Riverfront Centre
The Trail Museum and Archives is operated by the City of Trail and is located in the new Trail Riverfront Centre (1505 Bay Avenue), scheduled to open in late spring 2018. The ownership of the collections (the museum artifacts and material) remains with the Trail Historical Society (THS), a volunteer-led advisory committee.
The Trail Riverfront Centre houses the Trail and District Public Library, the Trail Museum and Archives and the Visitor Information Centre. The location of these services provides easy downtown access for library/museum-goers and visitors to the area. With proximity to the Esplanade, the Columbia River Skywalk and varied downtown amenities and businesses, the Trail Riverfront Centre is Trail’s hub for learning, culture and information. More information about these services is available on the Trail Riverfront Centre’s website www.trailriverfrontcentre.com.
